Structure of our Writing Curriculum and Sessions
Our writing curriculum is based on a text- based approach, where the children’s writing is inspired by a variety of high-quality texts. Our approach is inspired by One Education’s writing model which promotes:
- Text-based approaches to writing.
- Hooking children into writing.
- Providing a real audience and purpose.
- Promoting the editing process.
- Publishing.
- Writing for pleasure.
At the start of each half term, children are introduced to their new text in an engaging manner (steps 1 and 2). Throughout the term, the text is used to engage, guide and inspire the children to write for different audiences and purposes (step 3: see writing curriculum genre coverage and writing opportunities). Children are encouraged to edit and improve their writing (step 4 and 5) in writing sessions and through our assessment policy. Throughout the process, the children develop a love for writing through engagement in the text, the writing and the purpose. They become enthusiastic writers (step 6).
